Biography

Cláudia Silva received a Ph.D. in Digital Media from the NOVA University of Lisbon within the scope of the University of Texas at Austin-Portugal Program in 2016. Currently, she is an Invited Assistant Professor at the Instituto Superior Técnico (IST), University of Lisbon, Department of Informatics Engineering, and an Integrated Research Fellow at ITI-LARSyS.
My research focuses on the societal aspects of digital media and HCI being practice-based, with a particular interest in the empowerment of marginalized and underserved groups, by using participatory and qualitative methodologies such as ethnography, participatory design, focus groups, and in-depth interviews. Currently, I am part of two funded research projects concerned with online hate speech in the Portuguese context (https://hate-covid.inesc-id.pt/; https://knowhate.eu/). I have been also developing a theoretical decolonial framework for IDNs (https://indcor.eu/news/time-for-repositioning-workshop-teaser/, within the international context of the COST Action INDCOR.
